Soccer is a pretty big sport in the Middle East. Judging by the FIFA World Cup website, countries like Bahrain and Saudi Arabia are on the verge of qualifying for it. Also, Saudi Arabia is always a big competitor in the Little League World Series.
I definitely agree with Scott on Saudi Arabia being competitors in the Little League World Series. Maybe because it has something to do with their 6' 8", 256 lb, 13 year old first baseman, but who knows. Another up and coming sport in the Middle East is Rugby!

The world's championship snooker tournament is played in Dubai where there is also indoor alpine skiing and snowboarding. For those who like the sport outside, one can do it on the dunes. Also on the dunes is dune buggy racing. Hot air balloning is very popular. For those of the wealthy, falconry is enjoyed.
Basketball is in the rise in many Middle Eastern nations. Below is a link to an article going into further depth on the sport in Iran and how tensions may be high between America and Iran, but on the court its a whole different story.

Dubai is known as the "sports capital of the middle east," even though many of its sports do not have their origins in middle eastern culture.
